I've heard that there are different canons within Eastern Orthodoxy. Is this true?
Either way, can somebody explain the differences between the Orthodox canon(s) and the Catholic Canon (if there is even a difference)?|||There's only a couple books that are different. The New Testament is common to all branches of Christianity. So it's the Old Testament or Apocrypha that varies.
The Orthodox books that Catholics don't include:
Included by Orthodox (Synod of Jerusalem):
1 Esdras (see Esdras for other names)
3 Maccabees
4 Maccabees (in appendix but not canonical)
Prayer of Manasseh
Psalm 151
Included by Russian and Ethiopian Orthodox:
2 Esdras
If you get an "ecumenical" Bible, like the New Revised Standard Version, it will include all books used by any denomination, albeit consigned to the Apocrypha section.
Peace to you.
