Ten easy points if you can figure out this one!!

Okay so I have a silver Casio Exilim Z100, and recently i've had a problem. When I connect the usb to the camera it won't register with iphoto and I can't import the photos.

Originally I thought it was the usb, but i have two and neither worked. Then I thought it was the camera, so I tried putting the memory card in another camera (a Canon) but it said 'memory card error'.

So I figured then that the memory card just wouldn't work with the Canon. But then I tried putting the Canon's memory card in my Casio-and when i connected it to the usb it registered on my iphoto...

So im guessing it the memory card...

what could be the problem?? I really need the photos ASAP. what should i do??

|||Its probably because your camera has to be detected in different mode. Do you see any USB settings, try changing them.

Cheers.. Nilesh|||did you try putting you memory card into the slot in the computer that's for it? in can fit almost any type of memory card.|||Buy yourself a card reader and your problems will be solved. Not all cameras are read by computers. Your computer has a list of pre-installed camera drivers but not all.

OMG! A New Camera!!!?

Canon lovers, are you as excited as I am?

Now where am I going to get $2700 from? %26lt;--- LOL, you don't have to answer that!

What are your thoughts on this new camera?|||Well, we won't really know for sure until we have it in our hands... until then, we'll just have to look at its reviews.

When will it be coming out in stores?|||It really isn't a "new" camera. Its an updated version of the 5D first released about 2 years ago.|||Horay? its a camera.... you dont even need 21.1 megapixels anyway, no one does. Just get a 15 for 2000 dollars cheaper

What is the best printer for postcards?

I'm looking for a postcard printer for home and very small business use. It doesn't need to be the fastest one, but I wouldn't want to buy ink every 10 postcards.

I'm ready to pay up to $200 for it.

I have been looking for Canon's Selphy series, but are they any good?

I know that there are these huge office versions that would do this faster and better and I have to admit those are sweet...

but I just don't have the cash nor need for those.|||I can't say about the Canon Selphy but Canon printers are general very good. I have two and they are really good. I have the MP220 and the MP 610. I have had HP, Epson (which I would never buy again), Lexmark and Canon. Canon is for me the printer maker of choice, with HP being second.

I agree about having a warranty as at least then you know that for a year it has to work and if it does not you haven't got to pay to have it fixed. Buying used is good as long as it lasts but if not its false economy so its taking a risk in the long run.|||HP 800 series printers don't take up a lot of space and you can get a used or refurbished one and it will run almost forever. As for the ink go to www.printpal.com Save money on the cartridges and you order online and they come to your mailbox. I have an 810 and a 812.

One is the back up if needed. My son pulls parts from other ones and puts them back together again. I paid one dollar for 810 and $25.00 for the 812 on Ebay. I have what I need and I work mine to death. I have had the one new in 1998. It was totally squashed by a truck when moving. It was 9 years old and ran till that day. These printers do most of my clock faces.

Which camera gets the clearest pictures, from what I heard it all about the lens?

Which camera gets the clearest pictures, from what I heard it all about the lens? I have mostly owned canon鈥檚 and love them. Currently have the SD series 7.1mp and it still takes great pictures..

However, it time for a 2nd camera and I don鈥檛 know which one to get. I heard the bigger the lens the better picture it takes and that megapixel aren鈥檛 that big a deal as compared to the lens you get.

Is this true the bigger the lens the clear the picture? I know SLR鈥檚 are the best ones to get. However, I don鈥檛 have $700 to spend for a nice canon. I would like to spend $200 on a camera that takes clear pictures. I don鈥檛 care about the mega pixel or size of the camera. I would like them to have a rechargeable battery not that AA nonsense. Please advice.|||No, the size of the lens does not determine the sharpness of the pictures. The quality of the lens is very influential. For instance, I have a 70-300mm Tamron lens that takes ok pix, but my buddy has a 70-300mm Nikkor lens that takes excellent pix; this assumes the same camera and photographer. Other factors include the sensor and the photographer.

You're right, mega pixel (MP) has little to do with picture sharpness or clarity. It does determine the resolution of the pic, which can affect the sharpness of details. That said, your screen is only going to show about 2MP, regardless of the pic. A 4x6 print can use about 9MP for excellent quality, but I have made perfectly usable 4x6 pix with my old 1.8MP camera.

Canon makes several models that fit your budget and you will find that they will take quite clear pix. I think you would be pleased with the Canon PowerShot SX130IS. Also look at the Nikon Coolpix L110. Both cameras have vibration reduction which helps prevent blurry pix from camera shake.

As for AA batteries, you can get rechargeable ones and they are easily replaced in an emergency, but I believe that both of these cameras use the rechargeable Li-Ion batteries that I think you are looking for.

Finally, if your current camera still takes great pictures, why are you replacing it? Why not keep using it until it doesn't do something that you want it to do? Save you money for that DSLR that you really want.|||Well what you'd like to spend - you won't like what you get.

Trust me you're correct, dslr cameras are the best for any kind of photography. I have two Canon dslr cameras, the Rebel XS and the eos t1i. I also use a Canon 28-200 lens that is very sharp, quick and accurate. The XS and 28 package is about $1,000 - a far cry from $200. Perhaps you'd better up your budget if you hope to get this type of camera and a good lens to go with it.|||Yes. A good quality lens does have an advantage but overall, it's the person behind the camera that dictates picture quality. The camera is just a tool.

What's a good compact, point and shoot camera?

I'm looking for a replacement for my Canon S40 and haven't a clue as to where to start. I'm looking for something that has a good sized LCD display on the back. The one I have is a 1.5 inch LCD display. I'm looking for something in the 7-8 megapixel range. And a camera with all the bells and whistles like Auto focus, red eye reducer, etc. I hear Canon's are pretty good however I'm not too savvy with the digital cameras so I'm not sure if a Kodak or Sony Cybershot would be better. |||I would recommend Canon SD1100 IS.

- 8 megapixels

- image stabilization

- 2.5" LCD

- 3x zoom

|||Canon is best, look at their SD series if you want another compact, they will have everything you are looking for. Sony makes good televisions. Kodak isn't good enough to be in this discussion. I have had all three. Still have 4 Canons, gave away the Sony. Couldn't give away the Kodak so it went to the electronic recyclers. BTW, Casio makes good watches.|||Sony Cybershot DSCT300

Take a look at this popular model :http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Ca鈥?/a>|||Take a look at the Canon A-590IS. Best under $200 camera IMHO.

What if my camera has dead pixels in the sensor?

Whenever I take long exposures (the longer the worse) I get a Red and Blue dead (or hot) pixels in my photos... I've only had my camera (Canon Rebel XSI) for only a month and I have it registered under Canon's 1 year warranty. Should I send it in for repair? I tried cleaning the sensor and that didn't work... so what do you guys think? Thanks. |||DSLR cameras and some others come with a feature called pixel mapping. This is a process that can be used to help alleviate problems like the one you are having now. Check your manual on how to run this with your camera. The companies use differing techniques, the result should be the same, no more dead pixels in your images. |||I think your sensor is dirty. A speck of dust will cause those symptoms.|||I have just noticed the problem on my 40D. It is NOT dust. Dust you cant see in the dark. You can send it back to canon, or you can map it. Set the lens cap on it, do a "manual sensor cleaning" for 30 seconds and it should map it out and not show up anymore. Ive done that and i can still see it when i'm viewing it in DPP but no other program will see it.

What is a good lens for SLR?

I am looking at a couple different lenses. I am looking at the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM, but I hear that it is worth getting the Canon L Series if I have the money because of the quality of the glass. I want to get something that goes about 70mm-300mm. I have heard that Canon's L Series is excellent quality. My friend has a Sigma APO 80-400mm F4.5-5.6 EX DG OS. How does it compare to the Canon L Series? What other lenses besides the Canon L Series do you reccommend?

I am also looking at Canon EF-S 17-85MM f4-5.6 IS USM for a wide angle lens. Is it good? What else would you recommend?

I am also looking at getting a Macro lens. How about the EF-S 60mm

f/2.8 Macro USM?

Thanks a bunch,

Kyle|||I would avoid Sigma... sure they have the Foveon technology in their cameras but the lens technology is still stone age compared to Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Minolta, Olympus, Mamiya, Hasselblad, Tokina,... want me to keep rambling on?

Sigma lenses can't stand on the same continent as Canon so go with Canon if you have the funds.

... and this is me saying it - a devoted Nikon user and Canon basher.

Can you recommend a point and shoot digital camera with solid manual settings?

I am looking for a quality point and shoot camera. I want it to have good manual settings, a zoom of at least 4x, image stabilization, a minimum of 6 megapixels, and a fast processor. AA battery power source (preferably only 2 batteries, not 4), vari-angled screens, and wide lenses, are nice, too.

I already have a nice DSLR, but I am going to be traveling in central America this winter, and I want to bring a smaller point and shoot that I wouldn't have to kill myself over if I lost. Ideally, it would fit in my pocket, so nothing big like the cannon S5.

Currently I familiar with the Canon A-series, but my knowledge of point and shoot cameras stops there. I like the cannon A650 and A720. The A2000 is nice, but It doesn't have the manual modes I need. Can anyone recommend any cameras comparable to or better than Canon's A650 and A720? Any brand is fine.|||Probably the Canon G9 (G10 has too many mega pixels) or any of the three Canon SX series or S5. I really dont think there are any manual cameras that arent a little bigger. Maybe the Nikon P60? I dont believe that the new A2000 has any manual controls.|||You can compare cameras here ---

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_鈥?/a>

The last one is the A590 and is much cheaper, yet has much the same features. It is rated highly. If I needed another camera, I would buy this one. You can't go wrong with any of the Canon A series.

Have a good time on your trip!

Is having the best camera lenses more important then the camera body itself?

Hi, I'm still having troubles on buying a new DSLR camera. I can't make up my mind whether if i buy an expensive kit with 18-55 lens or buy a cheaper one and invest on higher mm lenses. I'm thinking of Nikon's d60 or Canon's 450d.Some say that it's best if i buy a Nikon d40 and invest on lenses, but i want a high Megapixel camera (I know pixels don't count but I really want 10Megapix or higher). Thanks.. xoxo..|||I suggest buying the DSLR of your choice with the standard "kit lens". Once you've learned to use the camera and mastered its capabilities then you can start thinking about buying additional lenses. By then you will have a better idea of what type of photography you do the most and can choose a lens that compliments your style.

I believe its foolish to buy a lens just because someone says you should. If you find yourself shooting groups indoors then a fast (f1.4, f2) wide angle lens might be your best choice. If you bought a 50-300mm zoom because someone said it was great lens you'll find it completely impractical for shooting groups indoors. If you find yourself shooting sports or nature then that 12-24mm zoom you bought because someone said it was a great lens will be useless for sports and nature.

Buy the camera with the kit lens and worry about buying additional lenses in 6 months.|||The d60 for sure, but the lenses are useless without a good body, and vica versa, photography is expensive! lol!|||get a higher mid-grade camera and mid grade lenses and then later if you feel you need more clarity and detail, buy better lenses and you still have the pretty decent camera wether you upgrade later or not.|||the lens is extremely important. without a good lens, the rest of the camera is a paperweight.

what I would do, buy the best camera that yoou can afford, use the default lens, then upgrade to a better (longer) lens later.|||The term garbage in garbage out is very true for camera lenses. If you buy crap lens then your sensor will produce crap pictures. Get the best lens you can get for your camera first, then upgrade your camera. Most modern cameras can produce very nice pictures but without a good lens, you wont get that quality. A better camera will help, but not as much as a good lens. |||it all depends on what you plan to do. Professional would go for the "better" lenses. If you are not professional, it will not make much difference. In all actuality, no one will be able to tell the difference.

I would look at the Olympus two lens kits.

Using a digital camera at a concert?

I'm going to a concert on Dec. 21 at a smallish venue (The Vogue Theatre, Vancouver). I emailed the event and I was told that "You can bring small handhelds. Professional cameras are not permitted."

I just brought Canon's SX10 (Photo - http://news.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/1鈥?/a> Does this camera look too professional?? It is one of their point and shot cameras ... Am I going to lose my camera or get kicked out if they see me using it?

It's general admission, so if I take photos in the crowd I should be fine? I know I risk breaking the camera but there shouldn't be much pushing and such ... What are people's best tips?|||Oh, boy, I wouldn't take it. While your camera is not a DSLR, it looks like one, and in a hurry, they aren't going to be able to tell the difference. I have put your camera beside my DSLR here---

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_鈥?/a>

and if you scroll way down to the bottom, you can see that your camera is bigger and heavier than mine.

I would leave it home, or they will probably take it away. You sure don't want to lose that nice camera. Buy a program instead, and just enjoy the concert. Have fun!|||i think that your camera isn't too professional looking, it will probably be fine. because there are lots of people in a concert, the security most likely won't try to confiscate cameras once the concert starts. and if you have a strap for your camera that goes around your wrist i don't think there's too much danger of you dropping it, but it depends on how many people are at the concert jumping around or whatever.|||While that is certainly not a "professional" camera, most likely the people at the venue will consider it as such. If you had one of the typical pocket size digitals it would be allowed. They figure people who use those things are not going to get decent photos anyway, and that is pretty much true, so they are allowed to use as they state, "small handhelds".

If I was you, I would not risk taking the SX10 and either 1. having it confiscated, or 2. being turned away from seeing the concert.

steve

Will this camera snap a clear picture as soon as I touch the button?

I want a camera that will just take the picture as soon as I touch the button instead of waiting for the camera to warm up like I usually do for a few seconds before it take the picture. Will this one just snap the picture immediately instead of me having to wait those few seconds?

Obviously the camera may take a little time to lock in the focus if the lighting is very low and you are using a slow lens, but other than that, it's fast.

As far as a clear picture is concerned...that depends on a number of things (the photographer, the lighting, aperture used, which lens you are using etc.).

I would highly recommend it...|||I think the kit lens (with IS) should be ok till you get a grip on the camera and which focal length/s you prefer. I didn't buy the kit lens, but instead bought 2 separate better lenses. One lens worth getting is the EF 50mm f/1.8. It's dirt cheap and plasticky, but optically very sharp.

|||sure? dont go to yahh answrs for this kinda question..i say go to best buy. bet ill be the only answerer|||Since the camera's an DSLR, it will. If you use the flash though, it might not, since the flash's capacitors need time to regain their charge for another discharge.

Also, since it's an DSLR, while it'll take a shot straight away, it won't auto-focus, or adjust it's settings for the best possible shot, so you've got to make sure you do all that before hitting the shutter button.

What do you think of my short story? (:?

“Her foot slipped, and she started to fall”

She hugged her friends and waved as she walked away. A choir of “See you tomorrow” and “Don’t forget Mr. Canon’s homework!” echoed as the 17-year old brunette got on the city bus and headed home.

Eva took the key out of her backpack and opened the door. “I’m home” she announced as she walked in. She then heard a loud crash coming from the kitchen, and a scream from her younger brother, Wilson, followed by sobs. Eva knew exactly what was happening, her mother was drunk once again.

She ran to the kitchen to pick up her 8-year old brother, who had been pushed in the table. “Don’t worry, you’ll be okay. Go to your room and get your pajamas. We’ll sleep at grandmas tonight.” said Eva, as she tried to comfort him. Wilson found the courage to mumble “O-Okay”, as he got up.

This was nothing new to the Rickinson’s family. Ever since their dad left for another woman, the fairy-tale family had become a wreck. Linda, mother of the two, was diagnosed with bipolar and was now an alcoholic refusing help for her issues.

“Mom, you have to stop this pattern. Me and Wilson are going to be at grandma’s house for the night, please try to be sober when we come back tomorrow”, said the older sibling. Linda reached over for the frying pan, and started to hit her daughter continuously laughing hysterically, as she reached for the vodka again.

Eva walked to her brother’s room holding back tears as she knew she had to be the strong for Wilson. They packed clothes for a few nights and sneaked out the back door, wanting to catch the late bus heading to the east end of the city.

They arrived to their grandma’s house around twilight. They enjoyed her famous grilled cheese, but Eva still couldn’t relax. While their grand-mother helped Wilson get ready for bed, Eva decided to take a walk to blow-off steam.

She walked through a gloomy, lonely park leading to a rusty old bridge over-looking the busy city. Under her was a cold river full of rapids. This was, and always had been her secret place to go when things got to hectic at home.

As she carefully sat on the edge of the bridge, thought were racing through her head. “You could end it now. Just jump. Jump. Jump. Finish this living hell once and for all.” the girl thought to herself. As tempted as she was to end her life, she knew she could never leave her brother. He needed her, and she knew it.

She took one last look through the mist at the city lights, took a deep breath and wiped her tears. She got up to go home, but her foot slipped and she started to fall.|||Suggestions:

-Show, don't tell.

-Pay attention to pacing. The story just flew by.

-Characters need more fleshing out.

More detailed critique:

-As soon as she comes home, she hears her brother screaming, and immediately jumps to the assumption that her mother is drunk once more. However, describe it to us. Make us hear her brother's piercing shrieks, make us feel the main character's fear or anger. Surely she must feel some emotion. Convey it.

-Her reaction to the above part seems unrealistic. She's emotionless, keeping her cool. Shouldn't she be screaming at her mother, or running to protect her little brother? Where is her mom during this? Confusing.

-You need to describe the mother. How does she look? Messy hair, rumpled clothes, reddened eyes?

-The dialogue needs some work. It doesn't sound real.

-Linda wouldn't be able to hit someone with a frying pan, laugh hysterically, and reach for her vodka at the same time. She's drunk, she should be more uncoordinated, reacting slower with more sluggish movements. Drink might make her more violent, but it doesn't make her stronger. Also, with alcohol, she's probably only going to be violent if she's angry (which is why the laughing hysterically part doesn't make too much sense to me)

-Once again, the reaction to the pain is unrealistic. Make us feel frying pan cracking against her head. Warm blood, dizziness, maybe her eyesight is blurry. Has she curled up on the cold kitchen floor, curling her arms around her head to protect herself? If somebody was hit repeatedly with a frying pan, they would react emotionally, crying or screaming or running like hell.

-Did Eva tell the grandmother what happened? What was the grandma's reaction? Was she horrified or angry or did she just look her age? Did she not want to hear what the girl had to say as she didn't want to believe her own daughter could do such a thing? Did she pressure her grandaughter into telling her what happened when she caught sight of the bruises and cuts?

-As the emotions she goes through aren't really shown throughout the story, her contemplation of suicide comes as a surprise. She seems very collected, unnaturally calm and able throughout the story, and now all of a sudden she wants to die?

Overall, the story has potential. It's interesting enough, and successfully kept my attention. However, the characters could use some fleshing out, and some more description would definitely help it along. Nicely done, though, and keep at it! Have fun writing :D|||Pretty good.

I would recommend you put space between paragraphs so you can tell more easily when a new paragraph is starting.

Also you might want to tweak the ending to make it a little more punchy. As it is written it sounds like the beginning of a longer story, but I'm assuming you meant to end it there.

CAMERA HELP NEEDED HERE?

Okay, so I'm trying to decide which out of the following 3 Digital Cameras I should get. I'd normally like to get a DSLR, but they're too expensive for me at this current moment.

If you've ever used one of the following, please give a review:

Canon鈥檚 PowerShot SX10 IS

Panasonic鈥檚 Lumix DMC-FZ28

Olympus SP-550UZ

Thanks!!!|||I'm deciding between those three as well. I don't want the SX10 very much though since it does not record in HD. The FZ28 records in 720p which is very high quality. Printing Incompatible JPEG

I asked this question earlier, but I'm still a bit unsure on something.

I made quick edits (rotation, auto adjustment, brightness) on a Windows Vista computer, when I was viewing images in its photo gallery. It had this Fix/adjust tab to the side, and that's all I did. They still seem to be JPEG files.

After resaving some of these and whatnot, some appear when viewed on my camera (but are smaller sized in the camera screen than normal), while others still don't. It mostly seems to be my vertical images (which I had to rotate via comp) that are incompatible JPEG.

If I bring the memory card with the images I want to stores to print (like walmart), will these incompatible images still print? I ALSO have them saved onto a CD, will they print? Or is it possible that it won't work?

Is there anything I can do? I didn't use photoshop or anything....any softwares to revert back to the "true" originals? I forgot to save a few of them I believe.

Thanks again!

**Note: I've tried re-saving them using Canon's Zoombrowser EX software that was included, but it doesn't appear to be working.|||I've had this problem before. It was only the camera that had a problem displaying them. The best way to find out if this is going to be a real problem (no matter what the problem actually is) is to just try it. You can upload a few of these troubled pictures at walmart.com and see if their software reads it. You don't have to pay until the very very end, so just go through the process and see if it appears--and how it looks. Mine have always been just fine.|||The first thing I would do is double check the files and make sure they end in .jpeg It's possible that when you made the adjustments they were saved as a different file type and if that's the case it's actually a really easy fix. Open the photos in question and resave them using the "save as" option as opposed the "save" when you do this you should see an option for "save as type" below the box for "file name."

Scroll down until you see the option for JPEG files.

As far as the images on the CD, same thing just make sure they're in a JPEG file format. It's possible that Wal-Mart or other stores with similar services can access the files if they're not in a JPEG format but I'm not sure. Your best is to find out exactly what type of files they're currently saved as and try to resave them in a JPEG format.

As far as the "true" originals that's going to depend on whether or not the "new" files you have were saved as separate files or if they were saved over the "originals."

Not an expert on this sort of thing but I have a little experience with this kind of stuff. Hope you're able to get the originals back or at least get it so you can get the pictures you want. I've never tried putting stuff back on a memory card though so can't really help you there. Also not familiar with Vista so that could be causing the issues.

Try here: http://support.microsoft.com/ph/11732#ta鈥?/a> and they might be able to help you if it's a Vista issue.

can a nikon use canon's Utility software?|||As far as picking out which camera to get the best advice I can give you is to go down to a camera shop and play around with them. The one that feels best in your hands is the one you should get. Both Canon and Nikon make excellent cameras. You can't go wrong with either brand.

The other thing you need to consider is lenses. The camera body will make almost no difference in image quality. The quality of the lenses you use will make a big difference though. So if money is an issue I would go with a cheaper model and invest the extra money in lenses. Again Canon and Nikon make top quality lenses so it wont matter which brand you choose.

Both Nikon and Canon cameras will come with their own software. They are generally not interchangeable. If you shoot in RAW mode you will need the software that comes with your camera or Photoshop to convert the RAW files. I don't know if you could edit Jpegs from a Nikon with Canon's software. I have never tried it but you probably could. It is the same format.|||Also have a look at the D200, it's being discounted since the D300 came out.The feel of the tool is all important. I find the D200 has a more solid feel, while others find it too heavy.I use Photoshop Elements 6 and Paint Shop Pro Photo for editing as I use Nikon and some friends use Canon I begrudged having to pay a lot extra for Nikon's own software after buying their cameras.Earthboundlight is a photosite from the NW of USA and has good technical articles which will help you in your final choice of specifications.|||D60. For what you are spending, go for a Pentax K200D. Anti shake, dust and water seals, 10.2 mp. Metal lens mount on body. (some makes are plastic) Any K mount lens made in the last 40 years will fit.

3rd party lenses are cheap. Kit lens is excellent.

I can't load footage from my HV30 into Final Cut Pro

I plugged my HV30 into Final Cut Pro yesterday to load some footage, for the first time, and when I opened the log and capture option the actual capture box that opens which displays the footage would not open. So I went to audio/visual settings and tried to mess around there but I really don't know what to do to fix this. It imported fine with my old Panasonic, and I knoow Canon's are Compatible with Mac computers, I have an Imac.... I also tried to import it on imovie but it wouldn't load there, probably somthing that has to do with the settings again, PLEaSE ANY info to help me is appreciated!

-thanks!|||Using the MacOSX System discs that came with your computer (or if you bought a more recent version, use those), you need to do a "custom uinstallation" of the "Apple Intermediate Code" (AIC) in order for FinalCut (or iMovie, for that matter) to understand/use HDV from that camcorder.

AIC is a QuickTime component that is not installed by default - nor is it a factory installed piece.

What can you tell me about Cannondale...?

Lots of people keep on tellin' me that they are weird bicycles, with weak frames and not so good components... but I like one old Canon that I saw, is in perfect shape, part of the Canon's vintage collection, and is on sale for $180.00... What do you think?|||I've owned many bikes made of steel, carbon fiber and aluminum. I currently own a 'dale R4000 CAAD5 it's a wonderful bike. The people I know that have them love them too. Components? Well if you buy a cheap one you get cheaper components like any other bike - makes sense right? You can't have a $800 bike with a $1500 component gruop now can you?

Now for the m200 it was a lowend bike with cheap components. I think $180 is too much for it. But I checked around and see they go for over $200 still. If you really like it it'd make an OK urban ride. Compared to the other m200 for sale it's a good deal.|||You didn't give enough information sorry. Cannondale makes good bikes.|||cannondale got a bad rep back in the 80's and early 90's because they did have some failure as many companies did. Everyone back then was trying to out do each other on wieght and sometimes things went alittle to far. This was mostly on thier road bikes. Cannondales failure rate is inline with the rest of the industry now and it was back then also. Cannondale was considered a higher end brand so when someone broka a 1000 + dollar frame it got more attention than all the cheap bikes that broke from other companies. Thier bikes are just a sturdy now as any other frame out there. Cannondale has always been one of the leaders in innovation in the bike industry

anyway.. invest in lens is more importent..|||I had the D60 when it came out. Only 3 points of focus... limits what you can shoot. Fully manual... comes with a decent lens... too pricey for what you get... I would get the D40x instead and save some money for another lens...Canon is a pretty good competitor of Nikon but I chose Nikon... I have the D90 and it works similar to the d60 but it's a different class of camara. You will pay less but you will not get the auto focus hook that focuses older lenses and will be forced and limited to some lenses (usually pricier, since they must have the focusing mechanism in the lens). So many "SD" digital memory cards for my camera? Which one to buy? !?

Just bought a Canon S-5 IS...want to buy at least a 2GB card (maybe a 4GB)....anways: So many brands, so many "transfer rates" etc... I don't need a high-power (and High-DOLLAR) one....I'm not gonna be chasing movie stars or anything....but I do want a decent one...for the money. Any suggestions? Is SanDisc better than Kingston etc?? What should I look for?? HELP !|||The S5 IS features Canon's latest Digic III processor, so you will want a reasonably fast card for optimum camera performance (especially when recording high quality movies). I would recommend Sandisk as a very reliable brand. Extreme III is my pick (and it's the card most often used in camera review tests). The S5 IS is fully compatible with SDHC (high capacity SD) cards of 4GB and up.

You definitely don't want to be using the standard speed Sandisk (blue) card...because your camera will struggle.

Each 2GB will allow approx. 550 high quality (Superfine/Large) images...and 16 minutes of high quality movies (640x480 @ 30 fps).

Don't forget to format your card before you use it...and when you want to delete ALL images from the card.|||If you just want the cheap basic ones then get the Sandisk or PNY brands. They're cheap and reliable.|||I only buy San Disk. If you're not shooting RAW, a 2GB should be fine.|||brands dont matterall the same on this inside........ 4 GB prob will do just fine... watch out for sales.. circuit city and best buy.. even office depot have these cards on sale like every week........|||SanDisk is good.|||Essentially, any SD memory card will work in your camera. I would avoid generic cards though, as they use cheap suppliers of sometimes dubious quality. Stick to name brands like SanDisk, Kingston, Transcend, Ridata, PNY, etc. Do not buy from eBay or small online stores, unless you want counterfeits.

Examples of decent performers for the money: SanDisk Ultra II, Kingston Elite series, or any of the name brands that are 120x or faster.

Don't get the Sandisk Extreme IV series of cards; you won't see the speed benefit in your camera, plus they are expensive.|||anthony named some of the best brands. I personally like Sandisk myself. If you do buy a 4 GB, make sure your camera is SDHC compatible. Also, you'll want a reader for it since older readers won't read SDHC and using the USB cable is very very slow. If you have a Costco near you, they have great deals on flash memory.

What camera to get?

I鈥檓 looking for a camera, but I鈥檓 not sure what one to get. I want one with features similar to an SLR camera, but I also want it to be able to record video. So basically, I鈥檓 looking for a high-quality (at least 10 m.p.), high-feature camera capable of also recording high-quality video.

I鈥檝e looked at canon鈥檚 power shot and the rebel. Would these work? or are there betters out there?|||The King is right.

DSLR's do not do video ... they are what the pros use in conjunction with their 35mm camera bodies. There is a mirror and shutter in the way, so video is out of the question.|||Unfortunately, no Canon Rebel has a video feature. And should you choose a 10 megapixel digital camera, make sure there is minimal shutter lag [when it's writing to the memory device.]

If you are looking for the very best budget digicam with an image stabilized 12X optical zoom, 6 megapixel with no shutter lag even with 2.5 fps, excellent low light imagery and excellent sound video, check out the Canon PowerShot S3 which sells for around $275 [refreshed factory model] at samys.com

Good luck!|||SONY CANNON KODAK|||If you want a DSLR and a camera that does video, you actually want two different cameras. Basically, still cameras are not designed to do videos. If video is your real interest and you only want to deal with one camera, it is a video camera that you want. Several of the digital video cameras also are set up to take a still image on an on board flash card. They mostly produce a small but acceptable image. On the other hand, still cameras are not designed for video and produce poor video quality.

I am a working professional and use the Canon system cameras for both still and video photography, but I use EOS5D cameras for still photography and a Canon HV20A for videos. They both produce excellent results. You can't go wrong with Canon cameras.|||canon s5

Does the Canon Off-Camera Shoe Cord work with non-Canon flash?

I have some old flashes and I was wondering if I could use them with my Canon XTi. They work on the on-camera shoe, but I'd like to use Canon's cord to get an off-camera lighting effect. Do I have to buy Canon Speedlights for this to work?|||I would imagine if have a canon module so they work on the hotshoe then the pins would be in the same position to work on the cord. I would caution you to make sure the old flash is safe to use. Some strobes have very high trigger voltages. Modern digital cameras are not rated for these high voltages. Canon recommends only 6 volts. What normally happens with the ones that are too high voltage is that they work for a while then they stop and you find you have burned out the circuits in your camera body and have an expensive repair bill

Lens Recommendations for Canon 5D mark ii?

I've already purchased more than a few lenses (and some I'm using from my old film slr), but am looking for a good (fantastic, even!) lens for my new Canon 5D mark ii. Primarily, this would be a lens for portraits.

Lenses I already own: Canon(s): 35-80 .1/1.3, 28-80 1:3.5-5.6, 75-300 1.5/4.9, 28-135 .5/1.6, 50mm .45/1.5, Tamron lens: 75-300mm 4-5.6, Bower: 500mm f/8.0 Reflex Mirror Lens.

Ideally, I'd like to keep it around $500-$600, but I'll admit, I'm drooling over the luxury series from canon (at $1200+) so for the right lens, well, that's what I'd do...since the glass is rather important! :)|||For portraits with your 5D the EF 100mm f2.0 USM would be ideal.

For wide, sweeping landscapes the EF 14mm f2.8L II USM would be a great but expensive choice.

In my opinion you have way too much overlap with your current lens selection. 35-80mm, 28-80mm, 28-135mm and two 75-300mm lenses? I suggest selling the 35-80mm and 28-135mm and one of the 75-300mm lenses. With the 28-80mm and 75-300mm you have minimal overlap and a range of 28mm to 300mm with only two lenses. That leaves you with the 28-80mm, the 50mm and one 75-300mm plus your 500mm mirror lens. Add the 14mm for landscapes and the 100mm for portraits and in my opinion you'd have a much better kit.|||I always check photozone.de for lens reviews.

Have Canon 40D w/28-135mm lens. Need shorter & wider lens to complement...need some details and advice?

Am looking at Tamron 17-50/2.8, Canon 17-40mm/4L, Tokina 12-24mm. Also, I have noticed that Canon/s newest EOS brochure lists several Prime lens as "Wide angle"...these would be 20mm, 24mm, 14mm, 28mm, etc......SO this leads to my more specific question. Just because two lenses share same focal lens does not mean they are same width, correct? This is real confusing to me, and it compounds issue when "Wide Angle" does not hold true for my cropped sensor.

If I go with 24mm/1.4 or 1.8 will this be essentially same WIDTH as my 28-135 at 28mm?? Or will it be significantly wider?

Also, hate to limit myself to the three choices listed above (17-50, 17-40, 12-24), but am looking for a little versatility.....so this tells me I would almost certainly need a 2.8 fixed aperture lens to achive versatility. What do you think?

P.S. I am sure Photoace will be all over this one!!|||Don't get the Canon 24 mm f 1.4. It's very expensive - and as 'fast' as it is, this lens is hardly wider than what you have now.

If you're going to go wide, why don't you get Canon 10-22 mm one.

http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showp鈥?/a>|||You're correct about width - 28mm is still 28mm regardless of how far out the lens will go... 28 and 24 are essentially the same thing. Now, go to an 18-200, good reach, wider at 18.

If I were you I'd go to the manufacturer's sites and look closely at what they have available. I have a Rebel XS 1000D with a Tamron 18-200mm and I really enjoy it - a work horse because it's very wide with great reach... and not that expensive.

Good Luck|||How wide do you want to go. Give the lens you have now, I would probably go with the Tokina 12-24. Thats a great focal range and the new version of that lens is supposed to be very sharp and from experience Tokina lenses are very solid and well built. The 17-40 is a great lens, but 17mm might not suite your wide angle needs, it would probably be best to try a lens at those focal lengths to see how wide you need to go. My money is on the Tokina 12-24 though, unless you see yourself going full frame very soon in which case I would go with the 17-40.|||At the short end, a small difference in focal length makes a very noticeable difference. 24mm is most certainly much wider than 28mm, but for your 40D, still not wide enough.

The 12-24's and 10-22's are *really* wide angle, even on the 40d. Not good general purpose lenses.

On your list, the Tamron would be the best choice for a really good walk-around, general purpose, wide angle lens. The Canon 17-55IS is no slouch either, at 3 times the price. Sigma also makes a slightly more expensive 18-50 f/2.8. Tokina does a 16-50 f/2.8, but the last price I saw was about $650. Any of those are very good choices for the 40D. Not ultra wide angle, all are constant aperture f/2.8 lenses, with enough wide angle to make them useful.

In my opinion, 12MP Canon G9, A650, SD950 are an excess. Is anybody who really needs extra pixels for compact?

In itself, the idea of changing Canon’s favorite 1/2.5” sensor size to bigger is great. Nevertheless, in case of Canon G9, SD950 and A650 large 1/1.7 inch sensor has a trouble. Its useless 12 extra pixels with not needed 4000 x 3000 resolutions bring in superfluous sensor noise (for example look at G9 user’s opinion: ‘horrendous image noise above 200 ISO’ or my http://fototramp.blogspot.com/2007/11/ca… There’s nothing to be done, trying to put more pixels into the sensor a mfr has to make a pixel smaller. As a result, the sensor becomes warm and makes an image noisy. Please, express your one's opinion.|||I completely agree. I would much rather see an 8 MP point-and-shoot with good low light / high ISO performance on the market than a 12 MP camera that still suffers in difficult lighting conditions.

Perhaps there has to be a difference in performance to encourage people to upgrade to a DSLR after owning a point-and-shoot for awhile... That's my bet. The quality of these point-and-shoots is really getting amazing except for the small sensors / noise. Who would spend more if they didn't have that limitation?

It also seems like too much of a coincidence that the cheap film cameras used to limit you to using 200 ISO film cartridges.... and now the cheaper digital cameras don't work well above 200 ISO either. The more things change... the more they stay the same... LOL

It's funny how they pretend to care by adding image stabilization to all the cameras, when increasing the sensor size a bit (without increasing the mega pixels) would probably be a much better improvement.|||I think only professionals needs that kind of resolution and they generally avoid pocket camera because of the sensor size so... yea I completely agree with you.

The general consumer however are mislead by the megapixel thing (as you might also notice by the way some people answer in this community) and so to satisfy them they pack more megapixel in one small chip so they camera can be more marketable. It reminds me of the PMPO thing the speaker builder used to do to push their sales.

I think 5-6 megapixel is the sweet spot for the moment in term of pocket camera. Sadly, only a (relatively) few people in this world who are aware of this thing. Oh well. We can only hope that this is a perfect world, but it's not.|||This is a very timely question. Shutterbug Magazine has an article in the Nov. 2007 issue titled "The Pros %26amp; Cons of Pixel Packing" (shutterbug.com). The article addresses this very issue.

What's Up With Canon These Days?

I have just gotten into photography seriously and bought my first DSLR a year and a half ago, and in that time Ive learned just about all I can of the tech aspects of photography, worked with my university newspaper for all of that time, done some small free lance jobs including a wedding and concerts and spend a lot of free time taking pictures. (obviously Im still learning though). I picked Canon because everyone recommended them and I liked how they preformed. But now I am considering a switch before it gets too expensive. It feels like with the introduction of all these 15mp point and shoots, and the rather disappointing 50D also with 15mp, still only 9 AF points, minimal weather sealing, no video, that Canon is just concentrated on the latest consumer wiz bang. Of course they do have the 5D mark II, but if you do not have 2700 to spend there are few nice mid range options like the Nikon D90, D200, D300. Not to mention Canon neglects weather sealing on its lower end bodies. I guess I am just feeling like Nikon offers a better range of Camera's and does not just push products out to get them on the shelves as Canon does lately. Nikon has a at least one DSLR body to match Canon's if not more. For those of you who have been around a while, is likely to change or do you think this is a trend likely to continue or get worse? Everyone I know seems to be clamoring for Canon to stop the mega pixel war and start putting in useful features. I would much rather have a 50D with 10mp, 11 AF points, better weather sealing. Heck they can even trash the 12800 ISO its pretty much unusable anyways.|||Canon and Nikon have been leapfrogging each other for years. I don't see the point of switching brands now unless Nikon has a camera out that you absolutely, positively must have to do your work.

Cannon tends to release new models in the entry level segment every year. Nikon is closer to 18 months between updates, and as a consequence Nikon's updates always seem bigger. Well, they are bigger updates... but for every 3 updates from Canon vs. 2 from Nikon, the two brands remain evenly matched.

With pro level bodies, Canon currently leads the way with megapixels and Nikon has better high-ISO performance. Those are real differences. As you go down the line, the new Nikon D700 finally forced Canon to update the 5D, and then Canon %26amp; Nikon seem to divide and conquer: The Nikon D300 is slightly better and more expensive than the Canon 50D, then the Nikon D90, followed by the Canon XSi, and at bottom of the list the Canon 1000D and Nikon D60 (and the old D40) duke it out for anyone on a tight budget. Both brands also have an excellent selection of lenses and flashes that they also constantly update.

As for 15 megapixlel point %26amp; shoots offering the same resolution as the Canon 50D, that's simply not true. The lenses on point %26amp; shoot cameras are not capable of transmitting that kind of resolution - they top out at around 8 megapixels. To get the full 15 megapixels out of a 50D requires that you use professional quality lenses in combination with impeccable technique.

I use a Nikon D200 myself and this camera seems to offer everything you want...

* 10 MP, check.

* 11 AF points, check - although I only use the central AF point.

* weather sealing, check. I've used it in heavy rain in combination with a weather sealed lens.

But no ISO 128,000 (the D200 goes up to 3,200 and I wouldn't recommend going over 800) and no video. The D300 is better at high ISO and the D700 is much better. I look at the video feature as the new live-view and sensor-cleaning... a whiz-bang feature that will be probably be included on every new model. The purists will grumble that it's a gimmick and everyone else will gladly take advantage of it.

But here's the thing... is the D200 really that much better than the Canon 40D (or the D300 vs. the 50D)? And if you switch now, will you regret it if the Canon 60D does offer a vast improvement?

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with either brand. Just stick with Canon, treat yourself to a nice lens, and upgrade the body if %26amp; when they offer a big enough improvement for the right price.

P.S. I've never seen any of your photographs but I enjoy your work on this site ;-)|||theres no question. i have the hp r937 (touchscreen)

What is the Orthodox Canon? (What are the books of the Orthodox Bible? How do they know?)?

Has the canon (i.e. the lists of the books of the Bible) been fixed for the Orthodox Church? Or are there multiple canons?

What are the books of the canon(s)?

How do the Orthodox know? Do they appeal to some pre-Schism council? A post-Schism council? Something else?

I have heard that the Slavonic Bible differs slightly from the Greek Orthodox Bible, but wish to have more information. I would prefer a person NOT merely copy and paste what Wikipedia has on the issue, because I am particularly interested in the Orthodox position on any councils which may have determined the canon (and Wikipedia lacks that - it merely gives an alleged list of the Greek Orthodox and Slavonic canons).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!|||As you probably know, Catholic Bibles have 73 books, 46 in the Old Testament, and 27 in the New Testament. Protestant Bibles have 66 books with only 39 in the Old Testament. The books missing from Protestant Bibles are: Tobit, Judith, Baruch, Wisdom, Sirach, 1 and 2 Maccabees, and parts of Esther and Daniel. They are called the 'Deuterocanonicals' by Catholics and 'Apocrypha' by Protestants. Martin Luther, without any authority whatsoever, removed those seven books and placed them in an appendix during the reformation. They remained in the appendix of Protestant Bibles until about 1826, and then they were removed altogether.

Please be mindful of the fact that those seven books had been in Bibles used by all Christians from the very foundation of Christianity.

Hellenistic Greek was the language of the day during the time of Christ. This was due to the fact that Alexander the Great had conquered the region several hundred years before. The Hebrew language was on its way out, and there was a critical need for a translation of the Hebrew Old Testament for dispersed Greek speaking Jews. This translation, called the Septuagint, or LXX, was completed by Jewish scholars in about 148 B.C. and it had all of the books, including the seven removed by Martin Luther over 1650 years later. The New Testament has about 350 references to Old Testament verses. By careful examination, scholars have determined that 300 of these are from the Septuagint and the rest are from the Hebrew Old Testament*. They have shown that Jesus Christ Himself, quoted from the Septuagint. Early Christians used the Septuagint to support Christian teachings.

For the first 300 years of Christianity, there was no Bible as we know it today. Christians had the Old Testament Septuagint, and literally hundreds of other books from which to choose. The Catholic Church realized early on that she had to decide which of these books were inspired and which ones weren't. The debates raged between theologians, Bishops, and Church Fathers, for several centuries as to which books were inspired and which ones weren't. In the meantime, several Church Councils or Synods, were convened to deal with the matter, notably, Rome in 382, Hippo in 393, and Carthage in 397 and 419. The debates sometimes became bitter on both sides. One of the most famous was between St. Jerome, who felt the seven books were not canonical, and St. Augustine who said they were. Protestants who write about this will invariably mention St. Jerome and his opposition, and conveniently omit the support of St. Augustine. I must point out here that Church Father's writings are not infallible statements, and their arguments are merely reflections of their own private opinions. When some say St. Jerome was against the inclusion of the seven books, they are merely showing his personal opinion of them. Everyone is entitled to his own opinion. However, A PERSONS PRIVATE OPINION DOES NOT CHANGE THE TRUTH AT ALL. There are always three sides to every story, this side, that side, and the side of truth. Whether Jerome's position, or Augustine's position was the correct position, had to be settled by a third party, and that third party was the Catholic Church.

Now the story had a dramatic change, as the Pope stepped in to settle the matter. In concurrence with the opinion of St. Augustine, and being prompted by the Holy Spirit, Pope St. Damasus I, at the Council of Rome in 382, issued a decree appropriately called, "The Decree of Damasus", in which he listed the canonical books of both the Old and New Testaments. He then asked St. Jerome to use this canon and to write a new Bible translation which included an Old Testament of 46 books, which were all in the Septuagint, and a New Testament of 27 books.

ROME HAD SPOKEN, THE ISSUE WAS SETTLED.

"THE CHURCH RECOGNIZED ITS IMAGE IN THE INSPIRED BOOKS OF THE BIBLE. THAT IS HOW IT DETERMINED THE CANON OF SCRIPTURE.

St. Jerome acquiesced under obedience (Hebrews 13:17) and began the translation, and completed it in 404 A.D.. In 405, his new Latin Vulgate* was published for the first time.

*The word "vulgate" means, "The common language of the people, or the vernacular".

The Decree of Pope St. Damasus I, Council of Rome. 382 A.D....

ST. DAMASUS 1, POPE, THE DECREE OF DAMASUS:

It is likewise decreed: Now, indeed, we must treat of the divine Scriptures: what the universal Catholic Church accepts and what she must shun.

The list of the Old Testament begins: Genesis, one book; Exodus, one book: Leviticus, one book; Numbers, one book; Deuteronomy, one book; Jesus Nave, one book; of Judges, one book; Ruth, one book; of Kings, four books; Paralipomenon, two books; One Hundred and Fifty Psalms, one book; of Solomon, three books: Proverbs, one book; Ecclesiastes, one book; Canticle of Canticles, one book; likewise, Wisdom, one book; Ecclesiasticus (Sirach), one book; Likewise, the list of the Prophets: Isaiah, one book; Jeremias, one book; along with Cinoth, that is, his Lamentations; Ezechiel, one book; Daniel, one book; Osee, one book; Amos, one book; Micheas, one book; Joel, one book; Abdias, one book; Jonas, one book; Nahum, one book; Habacuc, one book; Sophonias, one book; Aggeus, one book; Zacharias, one book; Malachias, one book. Likewise, the list of histories: Job, one book; Tobias, one book; Esdras, two books; Esther, one book; Judith, one book; of Maccabees, two books.

Likewise, the list of the Scriptures of the New and Eternal Testament, which the holy and Catholic Church receives: of the Gospels, one book according to Matthew, one book according to Mark, one book according to Luke, one book according to John. The Epistles of the Apostle Paul, fourteen in number: one to the Romans, two to the Corinthians, one to the Ephesians, two to the Thessalonians, one to the Galatians, one to the Philippians, one to the Colossians, two to Timothy, one to Titus one to Philemon, one to the Hebrews. Likewise, one book of the Apocalypse of John. And the Acts of the Apostles, one book. Likewise, the canonical Epistles, seven in number: of the Apostle Peter, two Epistles; of the Apostle James, one Epistle; of the Apostle John, one Epistle; of the other John, a Presbyter, two Epistles; of the Apostle Jude the Zealot, one Epistle. Thus concludes the canon of the New Testament.

Likewise it is decreed: After the announcement of all of these prophetic and evangelic or as well as apostolic writings which we have listed above as Scriptures, on which, by the grace of God, the Catholic Church is founded, we have considered that it ought to be announced that although all the Catholic Churches spread abroad through the world comprise but one bridal chamber of Christ, nevertheless, the holy Roman Church has been placed at the forefront not by the conciliar decisions of other Churches, but has received the primacy by the evangelic voice of our Lord and Savior, who says: "You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it; and I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you shall have bound on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you shall have loosed on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

his list of 46 Old Testament and 27 New Testament books was reconfirmed in the Council of Carthage in 397 A.D.. St. Jerome's translation, "The Latin Vulgate"*, is to this day, the official Bible of the Catholic Church. The Bibles which Catholics use today, have the same 46 books in the Old Testament as they have had since before the beginning of Christianity.

I have not seen a Protestant writing giving recognition to Pope St. Damasus I, or of even the barest mention of his decree, or of the Council of Rome. This is more than half of the truth which is "conveniently" left out of Protestant arguments.

The Council of Hippo in 393 reaffirmed the canon put forth by Pope Damasus I...

AD 393:

Council of Hippo. "It has been decided that besides the canonical Scriptures nothing be read in church under the name of divine Scripture.

But the canonical Scriptures are as follows: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua the Son of Nun, Judges, Ruth, the Kings, four books, the Chronicles, two books, Job, the Psalter, the five books of Solomon (included Wisdom and Ecclesiastes (Sirach)), the twelve books of the Prophets, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Ezekiel, Tobit, Judith, Esther, Ezra, two books, Maccabees, two books."

(canon 36 A.D. 393). At about this time St. Jerome started using the Hebrew text as a source for his translation of the Old Testament into the Latin Vulgate.

The Third Council of Carthage reaffirmed anew, the Canon put forth by Pope Damasus I...

AD 397:

Council of Carthage III. "It has been decided that nothing except the canonical Scriptures should be read in the Church under the name of the divine Scriptures. But the canonical Scriptures are: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, four books of Kings, Paralipomenon, two books, Job, the Psalter of David, five books of Solomon (Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Wisdom, Sirach), twelve books of the Prophets, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Ezekiel, Tobit, Judith, Esther, two books of Esdras, two books of the Maccabees."

(canon 47 A.D. 397).

It is to be noted that the book of Baruch was considered by some Church Fathers to be a part of the book of Jeremiah and as such was not listed separately by them.

The Fourth Council of Carthage in 419 again reaffirmed the Canons as defined in previous councils...

CANON XXIV. (Greek xxvii.)

"That nothing be read in church besides the Canonical Scripture.

ITEM, that besides the Canonical Scriptures nothing be read in church under the name of divine Scripture. But the Canonical Scriptures are as follows: Genesis Exodus Leviticus Numbers Deuteronomy Joshua the Son of Nun The Judges Ruth * The Kings (4 books) * The Chronicles (2 books) Job The Psalter * The Five books of Solomon (includes Wisdom and Sirach) The Twelve Books of the Prophets Isaiah Jeremiah Ezechiel Daniel Tobit Judith Esther * Ezra (2 books) * Maccabees (2books).

The New Testament: * The Gospels (4 books) * The Acts of the Apostles (1 book) * The Epistles of Paul (14) * The Epistles of Peter, the Apostle (2) * The Epistles of John the Apostle (3) * The Epistles of James the Apostle (1) * The Epistle of Jude the Apostle (1) * The Revelation of John (1 book).

Let this be sent to our brother and fellow bishop, [Pope] Boniface, and to the other bishops of those parts, that they may confirm this canon, for these are the things which we have received from our fathers to be read in church."

[This is Canon xxxvj. of Hippo., 393. The last phrase allowing the reading of the "passions of the Martyrs" on their Anniversaries is omitted from the African code.]

The Council of Florence, also called Basel, 1431-1445, was yet another Council which confirmed the Canons of both testaments of the Bible...

SESSION 11 4 February 1442:

"We, therefore, to whom the Lord gave the task of feeding Christ's sheep', had abbot Andrew carefully examined by some outstanding men of this sacred council on the articles of the faith, the sacraments of the church and certain other matters pertaining to salvation. At length, after an exposition of the catholic faith to the abbot, as far as this seemed to be necessary, and his humble acceptance of it, we have delivered in the name of the Lord in this solemn session, with the approval of this sacred ecumenical council of Florence, the following true and necessary doctrine. Most firmly it believes, professes and preaches that the one true God, Father, Son and holy Spirit, is the creator of all things that are, visible and invisible, who, when he willed it, made from his own goodness all creatures, both spiritual and corporeal, good indeed because they are made by the supreme good, but mutable because they are made from nothing, and it asserts that there is no nature of evil because every nature, in so far as it is a nature, is good. It professes that one and the same God is the author of the old and the new Testament -- that is, the law and the prophets, and the gospel -- since the saints of both testaments spoke under the inspiration of the same Spirit.

It accepts and venerates their books, whose titles are as follows. Five books of Moses, namely Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy; Joshua, Judges, Ruth, four books of Kings, two of Paralipomenon, Esdras, Nehemiah, Tobit, Judith, Esther, Job, Psalms of David, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Wisdom, Ecclesiasticus, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Baruch, Ezechiel, Daniel; the twelve minor prophets, namely Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi; two books of the Maccabees; the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John; fourteen letters of Paul, to the Romans, two to the Corinthians, to the Galatians, to the Ephesians, to the Philippians, two to the Thessalonians, to the Colossians, two to Timothy, to Titus, to Philemon, to the Hebrews; two letters of Peter, three of John, one of James, one of Jude; Acts of the Apostles; Apocalypse of John."

The Council of Florence was held over 100 years before the Council of Trent, and about 80 years before the start of the reformation.

The Council of Trent 1546-1565, the longest lasting Council in Church history.

AD 1546:

The Catholic Council of Trent, called to counter changes made by Martin Luther, again reaffirmed the canonicity of all 46 books of the Old Testament. Some Protestant reformers who attended, tried to get the Church to accept the list of books which the Jewish rabbis had chosen at Jamnia.

The Church refused and upheld her teaching from Pope Damasus I, and the Council of Florence. As a result, Protestants have the same New Testament books as Catholics, but their Old Testament differs because it does not contain the books rejected by the rabbis at Jamnia, and much later, rejected by Martin Luther.

It is interesting that for 1500 years all Christians accepted the same canon for the Old Testament. Only in the last 480 years, since the reformation, has there been disagreement from Protestants|||If you're interested, this is a popular forum for Orthodox Christians, you may find more answers here...

Canon 40D-450D-400D- which to buy? What lens to use? ~around $1200cap~?

Question pretty much says it all, but here we go.

I'm new to DSLR cameras but I'm heading of to Japan for a year. I take a lot of photos and really want to be able to have crisp and beautiful pictures.

I have decided to go with Canon. I was all set to buy my camera from just comparing reviews between the three on www.dpreview.com/ and seeing their comparison pictures. I also spent a lot of time on flickr comparing images between these cameras as well. So I decided to do just a little more research before I bought a 450D, and finally realized it wasn't so much about the Camera as it was about the lens.

Here are some examples of the kinds of photos i like to take:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/flightlessangel/2749050898/in/pool-canon450d

http://www.flickr.com/photos/chuan_chee/1443889905/in/set-72157602172259515/

I also like to take shots of buildings and scenery as well.

So again my question is, which camera out of Canon's 40D, 450D, and 400D should I buy? And what lens, or lenses would be best?

The kicker is I am only looking to spend about 1200$, so i don't know if this can honestly be done either.|||Get the 40d, the other two can't compare. I've held all three of the them in hand. .The canon 40d is HUGE compared to the 450d and the 400d. This camera is a ' prosumer ' camera. Whereby, the other two are just starter line cameras. So, having said that, the images on the 40d are naturally going to be better. Don't mind the 450d's 12 megapixels, that doesn't really matter. The 40d still have better image quality. Also the 400d/450d can only shoot at 3.5 frames per second. On the 40d, you shoot 5. Isn't that's a big enough difference? You say that you like to take photographs of sports, so that added speed will be convenient to you. The 40d is used by professional photographers, as a back-up, or even a main camera. This is a much better camera than the other too, it's MUCH bigger, which is more comfortable to hold in your hands.

However, such a nice camera comes at a price, The canon eos 40d, with a 28-135mm lens costs around 1,150$. So, with your extra money, you can get the canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens:

http://www.amazon.com/Canon-50mm-1-8-Cam鈥?/a>

it's a very sharp lens, mainly for portraits. This lens is also to be used in low light conditions. You never know when you wanna take a photograph and get the most depth of field. Get this lens, it's only eighty dollars.

However, 105mm's, might not be enough length for shooting at a great distance, 300mm's might be better for you. Consider getting this lens, once you get your 40d with 28-135mm lens:

http://www.amazon.com/Tamron-70-300mm-4-鈥?/a>

This Tamron 70-300mm lens seems sharp for 150$. You should get it later when you really need it.

Should You Get Body Only?

no, don't do that. The lens it comes with, the 28-135mm lens is over four hundred dollars by itself. So, it's a pretty sharp, decent lens. That's good enough coverage to start with, you should get this lens with your camera.|||Buy the cheapest body, price wise, and get the best lens you can afford for the action/sports shot that has IS. Maybe a 70-200 2.8, but that would be way over your budget.

If I had $1200 I'd spend it on a K20D too. :)|||I'd pass on the 40D, 450D and 400D since they do not have image stabilization nor live action LCD viewing screen. For around $675 you should look into the 2 lense offering on an Olympus Evolt E-510 from samys.com.

Good luck!|||my suggestion

the guide should answer your questions |||If I have $1200 to spend I will get a Pentax K20D|||I agree with David M. Buy a Canon XTi(400D). It offers the same pro features that you would find in high end Canon/Nikon cameras. Most photographers will tell you that lenses are more important than Cameras. You can buy a Canon XTi with a kit lens for around $550 and save money to buy extra lens or external flash. Most begginers spend most of their budget on the camera body and mount a cheap lens on their camera. Built in flash and kit lenses do not produce good results.

The Rebel XTi is compatible with all Canon lenses in the EF lineup so you can mount high end lenses like L series on XTi. You can also mount any Canon flashes such as the great 580ex II on XTi.

You can find plenty of great deals on ebay:

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-鈥?/a>

Good luck!

|||I would go with the 400D or the 450D and use the extra money to buy a nice lens. The 40D is a little over your budget and unless you are very familiar with an SLR camera you would be better off with the others.

For $1,200 you can get the 400D with the kit lens and a Canon 10-22mm wide angle for shooting the buildings and scenery. Or if you prefer a lens for shooting sports you can get the 70-300mm IS.

Unfortunately you can't get the camera and all 3 lenses for this price. Canon does have a cheap 75-300mm lens that you can use for sports that costs about $200. It is not the best but will work fine on bright sunny days.

Do you have a manual for the canon speedlite 220EX?

I have bought a second hand canon speedlite 220EX flash to supplement the under-powered flash on my Canon G9 digital camera.

It works very well with the camera in automatic mode and for basic "snapshots" but I would like to have a copy of the manual so that I can be sure I'm getting the full potential from it. Could you upload a copy for me? I have searched the web and Canon's web-site without success. Thank you.|||The following site has the manual for the Canon Speedlite 220EX Flash gun.

What kind of Canon point and shoot should I get?

I want a camera under $300, and I've heard Canon's good.

Should I get the smaller elph, with 3x zoom, or one of the larger, AA battery point-and-shoots with more zoom but maybe more shutter lag?

And if the point-and-shoot's the way to go, which one?

I want a camera for friends mostly, but also one that has a decent zoom, but I don't want the zoom to make the camera so slow and/or bulky that it's a nuisance.

I'm also having trouble distinguishing between the different kinds (580/720/640 etc) of Canon cameras.

Any advice?|||You can do quite a bit of research on the different models by visiting the amazon store.

The newer PowerShot 1100IS has quite a few good reviews.

The slightly older SD750 is highly rated too.

Now where am I going to get $2700 from? %26lt;--- LOL, you don't have to answer that!|||Yeah, I pre-ordered mine from Adorama on the 17th. Hopefully this will mean that I'll get it in the first few shipments. (Which is supposed to be sometime in November.) Then I'll truly see how impressed I am with it. Based on reading some of the Canon forums, there are a lot of people that are upset (so much so they say they are switching to Nikon) that the autofocus sensor appears to be the same; 9 points + 6 assist. I think they were just expecting an upgrade like the EOS 3 film camera was to the EOS 5 film camera and for it to have the 45 point AF system found in the EOS-1 Cameras. On paper, the 50D appears to have a better focusing system with 9 cross-type AF points. But since I mostly use the center on my 5D about 95% of the time, the center cross-type point with 6 assist points still seems better than 9 cross-type points, 8 of which seldom get used, so its not a concern for me. (Maybe they'd be happy if it was 9 cross-type points + 6 assist points. If your not familiar with the assist points, they are invisible and you can't select them. They lie around the center point, in the spot metering circle, so you'll get more accurate auto-focus when using the center point.)

I've got several BP-511A batteries, but now I'll have to buy a few extra of the new batteries and another grip. That's what disappoints me most. But hey, I'll reserve judgment until I have both the original and Mark II in my hands to compare. If it lasts for more shots and I don't have to concern myself with the battery as much, then in the end, it'll be a good thing.

Not sure about the HD Video Capture mode. It may be something I use occasionally, but I'd probably still have bought the camera at this price if it wasn't included. Truthfully, I'm kinda surprised it didn't show up in the 50D. That would be more of a selling feature to find it in the class of cameras or in the Digital Rebel line. As a nature photographer, I actually see the use for having this. Besides still photos, I also use an XL2 for creating video loops. The XL2 has 3 CCDs and can shoot 24p, but if the quality is good enough on the 5DmkII, it would be less equipment in my backpack if I didn't have to carry an XL2. Otherwise, I doubt I'll use this feature for portraits and events such as weddings and concerts.

Check out this link. It's a nice read compared to just reading specs:

The features that I'm most anxious to see are the in camera lens profiles and the battery profiles. I also expected it to cost a little more than it does, so that makes me happy as well.

Ace: The early reviews and specs say only 30fps with no user selection. Clips are limited to 29 mins and 59 seconds or 4GB, whichever comes first. You can change between 1920x1280 and 640x480 resolutions.|||This should cause some P%26amp;S and entry level DSLR shooters to move up to full frame although I am surprised that Canon did not make EF-S lenses usable on the new Mark II. At least the preliminary specs state EF lens compatibility.

Do you know if the video is shot at 30 fps or 24 fps?

For those with limited funds, there will be a lot of good used 5D's showing up and that is always good news|||Well, we won't really know for sure until we have it in our hands... until then, we'll just have to look at its reviews.

When will it be coming out in stores?
