Confused about canon's photoquality.?

I currently have canon SX100 IS. I am still searching for the crispiness in the images. Even at low ISOs (80-100) in low-light conditions the images are noisy. Longer exposure does produce noise-reduction artifacts. I was about to consider my first DSLR but they are expensive and I don't want to change the lenses often. I came across few imageson flickr and dpreview.com as shown below. Sony and panasonic tend to produce very nice photographs in long-exposure as well as high ISOs....

Sony H10 sample: at 1600 ISO

Panasonic FZ28: low ISO but longer exposure. (note the crispiness)

Why still canon's photoquality rating is always higher than others?? I am seriously considering any of these cameras. What is your opinion?|||Don't get Sony or Panasonic, neither of them will serve you in as good of stead as a good Nikon or Canon DSLR.

If I were you I would buy a Nikon DSLR, such as the D40, or, if you're looking for a point and shoot camera, a Nikon Coolpix.

I've shot Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Minolta, Sony, and even Olympus, and I have yet to find one that I prefer to my Nikon D40x or D50. I've also used a few Coolpix cameras, and they are very nice, by point and shoot standards.
