I wish to take photos of objects with focus in center and remaining portion blurred using my canon sx10 is?

i am unable to set the depth of field using my canon s 10 is. photos like flowers, even the background is clear - i want the background blurred. i have used f/2.8, f/5.6, but unable to get the picture. could someone help me with the right combination of settings. i have also tried manual focus|||Cameras such as your Canon have a quite small sensor and are designed to give the maximum depth of field. Getting them to do otherwise takes some work.

First option is to use the widest possible aperture i.e.: the lowest f number you can. You can control this by setting a lower ISO speed on your camera or by using a neutral density filter to force the automatic exposure system to open the lens to its widest. If it has a variable lens use the longest focal length available (telephoto).

The second option that occurs to me is simple with the through-the-lens viewing system used with single-lens-reflex cameras, but more difficult with viewfinder cameras. Obtain a clear UV filter to fit your camera and smear Vaseline around the perimeter leaving the centre clear. Just a little at first.Try variations and check the effect. One of the great advantage of digital cameras is that you can see the result immediately.

The third option, which will be the first for some, is to create the effect in photo retouching software on your computer.

To sum up:

1) maximum available aperture

2) longest focal length

3) be close to the subject you want in focus

4) focus manually so that prime focus is slightly in front of the subject and the subject is just in focus.

5) If the above don't work try the other options above.|||Is there a macro mode? Furthermore, you'd have to be quite close to the (main) object for blurry background to stand out more, as well.|||Try using the macro focus thing and a large aperture.

there should be a macro option ..
