I have a Canon S camera it also records video. It records video in an avi format.?

I can not put this format on a CD/DVD and watch it on my tv. I have tried a few converters from the web. One was terrible the other I downloaded a virus. I would like to purchase something from the store. Any help on which would be the best?|||there are many converters around, but the problem is that An AVI is not a video format, its a container, the video inside can be anything. This is a safe place to get software, used it for a number if years never had a problem,
